Following the “A Bureaucratic Desire for Extra Capsular Extraction” reissue, Earth‘s next offering is a brand new studio album, “Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1″, a fine testament to the fact that they have come a long way since 1989.

Drawing on inspiration from both British Folk-Rock bands the Pentangle and Fairport Convention and the North African Tuareg band Tinariwen, the new material, while still ‘heavy’ is much more fluid and melodically oriented, less dense and more textured and nuanced. It contains greater improvisatory interplay between the musicians. On one hand, the new album acknowledges previous recordings… on the other hand, there have been some significant changes which have given birth to yet another new sound, the main change being the line up and so joining Dylan and Adrienne on the album is cellist Lori Goldston (Nirvana, David Byrne, Black Cat Orchestra, Laura Veirs) and Karl Blau (K Records, Laura Veirs, Microphones) on electric bass.

There are many breaths of fresh air in this new record, many hopeful tones and drones as well as more eerie ones. One thing is for sure, this incarnation of Earth excels all expectations. $10 each

THE SECRET Confirmed To Return To The U.S. In March

Italian battalion THE SECRET are finally returning to the U.S. this Spring, their first tour on American soil since 2009. The crew will land stateside in early March to embark on a newly announced tour of the country alongside The Funeral Pyre. THE SECRET toured North America in 2009 with Early Graves, and were planning to book a second tour with the band, when EG singer Makh Daniels was killed in a van accident, delaying all plans. “This tragedy had a big impact on our lives,” THE SECRET’s guitarist Michael Bertoldini stated in a brand new interview with by Noisecreep.com. But looking towards the upcoming tour, he states ”I’m gonna see a lot of friends I haven’t seen in awhile and I’m gonna visit new parts of the country I’ve never seen.

Caspar Brötzmann Massaker will be part of Sunn O)))‘s curated event at Roadburn Festival 2011, set for Friday, April 15th at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland.

Stephen O’ Malley comments: “Greg and I are proud and honored to announce that Caspar Brötzmann Massaker will be performing set during the Sunn O))) curated day at Roadburn Festival, April 15th 2011. Brötzmann and his band have been a major source of inspiration on both of us over the years and we are very enthusiastic about the booking.”

Also appearing on the bill are Winter, Corrosion of Conformity (“Animosity” lineup), Earth, Scorn, Beaver, Hooded Menace, Menace Ruine, Aluk Todolo, The Secret, Atilla’s Csihar’s Void Ov Voices and Sunn O))).

As curator, Sunn O))) (Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley) are personally selecting the bands that will play during their special event, as well as performing a headlining show. Sunn O))) is Roadburn’s fourth curator, following David Tibet in 2008, Neurosis in 2009 and Triptykon’s Tom Gabriel Warrior at this year’s festival in April.
